Everybody had a great time in Scillies, and are now in the process of saving up for next year.
In the meantime, the gigs have returned, and the season proper is about to begin. Everyone is in training, determined to do their best. At Porthleven we are looking forward to our annual "Across the Bay" invitation race, on the 1st August. This is an event that has proved very popular since it was first introduced about ten years ago.
Many giggers have expressed the opinion that they consider it to be one of the highlights of the Pilot Gig year. It is an event for mixed crews, and is normally completed in just over the hour. Starting at 7pm, the rowers set out on the 8 mile crossing from St. Michaels Mount to Porthleven. With the promise of a warm welcome upon the completion of the race.
If conditions are against us on the 1st August, an aternative date has been set a fortnight later.
