Club get together on a Sunday morning

Welcome to Porthleven Gig Club!

New rowers are very welcome to come and have a trip out, and if the sea is kind, have a go at rowing!

The 2009 season has proved very successful for the Club, and a surge in membership has meant that we have had to add additional training sessions to accommodate the new intake.

So from the 15th June the training schedule at the Slip in Porthleven will be as follows:

Please check with the cox or captains as to when the starters sessions will be it depends on availability of light, race programme etc.

Rowing is weather dependent and above 10mph wind speed makes the sea rough and more difficult. If you are just learning to row it is better to avoid these conditions and come down when it is calmer (or have a go on the rowing machine!)

We ask new rowers to pay £2 a session for pins. After 3 rows our insurance states you must be a member to be covered. If you have enjoyed rowing and wish to carry on please ask for a membership form (they are pinned on the notice board by the door)

Please sign the new starters sheet on the board and leave your name, contact phone number and E mail address. Thank you.

What to wear
Shorts or tracksuit- with out pockets on the back side as they can rub. An old pair of trainers or something that you don't mind getting wet. Bring extra clothes as it can be much colder and windier out at sea. Sunblock in summer, waterproof top and wellies during colder times. Water to drink.

It can be a little daunting coming down to a club and not knowing anyone especially when everyone seems to know each other. Please ask questions if you are unsure about anything and ask for one of the captains or coxes to find out more. We will try to help!

What happens in training sessions
The coxes will select the crews to row. Please be patient, sometimes there are more rowers than places. The gig will go out on a run and then return for the next crew. For safety reasons we need to have experienced rowers in the gig at all times.
