The website is best viewed with Microsoft's Internet Explorer as this browser supports all the techniques used. It will operate in other browsers and has been tested using Maxthon, Mozilla Firefox, Sea Monkey, Opera, Google Chrome and Apple Safari.
Personal Digital Assistants
As the site demands JavaScript many PDAs or Smartphones will not display the website properly; and marked differences will be seen in the rendering between different browsers (e.g. IE & Opera Mini for the Pocket PC). Also, since the site uses frames and specialised frame control techniques that are implemented using JavaScript, some PDA browsers may be sent into an endless loop requiring the browser "stop" button to be used (this issue cannot be resolved with the currently implemented facilities available from the site's hosting service). You have been warned!

This is a mostly text-only site designed to provide access to the basic and updated news information from the Club.
Hosting Services
The '.CO.UK' website is
hosted on Linux servers at FREEOLA.
The '.ORG' domain
is held at FREEOLA where web, sub-domain and email forwarding takes place.
Guestbook, Forum, Password Management, Mailing List and Messaging Service (Messaging Service is for Members Only)
Rather than develop Server Side SQL based systems for these features I have chosen to use the Canadian-based "Bravenet.com" services that are free to use but supported by advertising.
The Members-Only Messaging Service is simply a stripped-down version of the standard Guestbook.
Password Protection is easily invoked using Apache Linux services but these are at extra cost so I have chosen to implement Password Management (to the Member's Area) using the advert-supported Bravenet service that I have enhanced with session control using cookies.
There is a separate (currently unused) Forum service available at:

However, this service, whilst excellent and easily protected from abuse, is considerably more feature-rich than required and demands that all users be authorised, which adds a further task for the site management team. So, again, the "Bravenet.com" advert-supported Forum has been integrated in the website where the forum(s) are visible but password protected for club members use.
All email addresses encoded on this website are obfuscated to deter spam harvesting. Upon request all fully-paid Members may have a personal email forwarder at the site's main Domain in the form of "given.surname@porthlevengigclub.co.uk". to request, please contact the club secretary in the first instance.
