Lifeboat Day

An annual highlight is the Lifeboat Day at Porthleven when, apart from the many other attractions and enjoyable pastimes that ensue, an hapless individual is unceremoniously dumped in the sea so their 'rescue' by the combined efforts of a helicopter from RNAS Culdrose and the Penlee Lifeboat can be witnessed by the enthusiastic crowds.  The sight of the helicopter coming around the headland and the demonstrable skills of all crew members in the 'rescue' is truly awesome.

One of the other features of Porthleven's R.N.L.I. Day is the Working Boat Race. This is when boat owners and fishermen dress their craft overall, and prior to the race, create as much mayhem as possible with buckets of water, water pistols (hastily fabricated water hose systems) and so on that are designed to make the opposition feel as uncomfortable as possible. Here we give a snapshot of what ensues!!!
